Introduction
Recipendium ("we," "our," or "the app") is a recipe management application available on web and mobile. We respect your privacy and are committed to being transparent about the data we collect and how we use it.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address through our authentication provider, Clerk. This is used to identify your account and enable sign-in.
Content You Create
We store the recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, and other content you create within the app. This data is associated with your account so you can access it across devices.
Images and Photos
If you upload recipe images or use the camera to photograph recipes, those images are stored in our cloud storage. On mobile, the app requests camera and photo library permissions only when you choose to take or select a photo. We do not access your camera or photo library without your action.
Payment Information
Payments are processed by Stripe (web) and RevenueCat/Google Play (mobile). We do not store your credit card number or payment method details. We only store your subscription status and billing period to manage your account tier.
Local Preferences
We store your theme preference (light/dark mode) locally in your browser. This data never leaves your device.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the app and your account
- To store and display your recipes and meal plans
- To manage your subscription and billing
- To look up nutrition data for ingredients you add (via the USDA FoodData Central API)
- To extract text from recipe images you upload (premium feature, using optical character recognition)
- To transcribe audio from recipe videos you provide (premium feature)
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate the app:
- Clerk — Authentication and account management
- Stripe — Web payment processing
- RevenueCat / Google Play — Mobile subscription management
- Supabase — Image storage
- USDA FoodData Central — Nutrition data lookups
- Google Cloud Vision / Anthropic Claude — Recipe image text extraction (premium feature, only when you upload an image for extraction)
- OpenAI Whisper — Recipe video audio transcription (premium feature, only when you submit a video for extraction)
These services process data only as needed to provide their specific functionality. We do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
Data Retention and Deletion
Your account data and recipes are retained as long as your account is active. You may permanently delete all of your data at any time through the "Delete All My Data" option on your account page.
When you request data deletion—either through the in-app button or by deleting your Clerk account—the following data is permanently removed:
- All recipes and uploaded recipe images
- Meal plans and meal prep sessions
- Shopping lists
- Preferences, nutrition goals, and cached data
- Your account record
This deletion is permanent and irreversible. There is no way to recover your data after it has been deleted.
Analytics and Tracking
We do not use any analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising SDKs. We do not track your behavior across other websites or apps.
Device Permissions (Mobile)
The mobile app may request the following device permissions:
- Camera — To photograph recipes for import. Only accessed when you tap the camera button.
- Photo Library — To select existing photos of recipes for import. Only accessed when you choose to pick a photo.
These permissions are requested at the time of use and can be revoked at any time through your device settings.
Security
We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication through Clerk, and secure credential storage on mobile devices. Payment information is handled entirely by PCI-compliant payment processors.
Children's Privacy
The app is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
